Unless you’re living under a rock, it was hard to miss Taylor Swift’s incredible album 1989, and the outrageous success it received between 2014-2016. Her first full-length pop album was heavily inspired by the music of the 80’s, which helped to spark the friendship between Swift and Antonoff. Jack helped to write the music and lyrics for Out of the Woods, going so far as to use the sound of a bag hitting the ground to make the repetitive booming sound at the beginning of the song. Antonoff would go on to help write two other songs on the album, I Wish You Would and You Are In Love, as well as the song for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, I Don’t Wanna Live Forever. So far Jack also has songwriting credits for Swift’s latest track ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, for her upcoming album Reputation.
3. Sara Bareilles-Brave
The lead track off her third studio album, The Blessed Unrest, Brave is a song about going after whatever you want to and being ambitious enough to say whatever you want to say. The powerful song was described by Jack as a civil rights anthem at a time when there are no civil rights anthems.’ Antonoff also offered song writing credits for another Bareilles track off the same album called ‘Chasing the Sun’.
4. Rachel Platten-Stand By You
Jack Antonoff worked with Rachel Platten for her 2016 debut album Wilfire on the track Stand By You. Described as a mood-lifting anthem, the song features Antonoff’s signature pounding synth-drum beat, paired with a soulful piano.
5. P!nk-Beautiful Trauma
P!nk’s latest album, Beautiful Trauma was released barely a month ago, but the reception has been overwhelmingly positive, debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 in the U.S. The song starts with a dramatic, almost church-like bells and horns, something very different and out there, followed shortly by a fast techno-like drum beat, something very much in Jack’s style of music.
