SHOW REVIEW: Heartstreets at L’Astral, Montreal

Montreal pop-RnB duo, Heartstreets, took the stage at L’Astral last night for their highly anticipated first headline show. The show was presented by Osheaga and suitably, Heartstreets did an Instagram stories take over throughout the day. Opening for Heartstreets was CJ Flemings and Ryan Playground.

Emma Beko and Gabrielle Godon, the badass chicks behind the moniker, have been producing music together for over half a decade. Having recently released a track produced by fellow Montrealer, KAYTRANADA, the girls dropped a new track before the show called “Lead Us” with Ryan Playground.

I first saw Heartstreets back in 2012 at Underworld (now Newspeak) and was instantly hooked. Their live performances are inspiring. From the moment they step on stage until they the final crowd applause, there’s a strong energy and vibe in the room. You can tell these girls love to perform and are incredibly passionate about their music. Being there makes you enjoy every song. What’s perhaps most refreshing is that there isn’t a ton of artists like them out there. The mix of smooth RnB vocals from Gabrielle, layered with the powerful rap lyrics from Emma is a match made in heaven. Last night’s performance highlighted how far their music has come without compromising their incredible stage presence. If you aren’t familiar with Heartstreets, check out their links below.
