Milky Chance took the stage at MTelus last night for their Blossom Tour supporting their 2017 sophomore album by the same name. From the first guitar strum to the final bow, the sold-out crowd sang along and danced to nearly every track. Opening the show was Ralph, a dance-pop artist from our neighboring Toronto.
Starting the night with 3 songs off their new album – Clouds, Ego & Blossom – the hour and a half gig cycled through their two albums. Stopping only a few times to thank the crowd and express their love for Montreal, the show ran smoothly from start to finish with a consistent energy throughout their set and from the crowd. Before heading off stage the first time, Milky Chance closed with “Cocoon,” the lead single off their 2017 album, which was sung by the full crowd. After a classic Montreal “Olé Olé Olé” chant, they were back on stage jamming a simple tune, which broke out into “Stolen Dance.” They finished the set with an extended version of “Sweet Sun.”
Having seen Milky Chance several times, including once at Osheaga this past summer, I’m amazed by the jump in sound and stagemanship each of their performances reflects every time they come through Montreal. Lead singer Clemens Rehbein’s unique voice hits every note, while guitarist Antonio Greger’s harmonica skills bring the extra touch to the live experience.
